Amazon founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos has decided to move his base from his childhood home to Seattle, where he founded the company.
In a touching Instagram post, he included an old video of his Seattle garage, where he spent hours during Amazon’s inception in 1994 and grew it into the world’s largest retailer one.
“As exciting as this move is, this is an emotional decision for me,” the billionaire posted on Instagram on Thursday. “Seattle, you will always have a place in my heart.”
Jeff announced that he will be moving from Seattle to his childhood home of Miami to be closer to his parents and his space company Blue Origin’s Cape Canaveral operations.
Bezos added: “Seattle has been my home since I started Amazon in my garage in 1994. In this video, behind the camera is my father, who is touring Amazon’s first ‘office.’ My parents have always been my biggest supporters. “
Why Jeff Bezos is moving to Miami
“They recently moved back to Miami, which is where we lived when we were younger (Miami Palmetto Class of ’82 – Panthers!). I wanted to be closer to my parents, and Lauren and I both love Miami. .”
Bezos added that private space company Blue Origin’s operations are increasingly moving to Cape Canaveral.
“I have lived in Seattle longer than anywhere else and have many great memories here. As exciting as this move is, it is an exciting decision for me. Seattle, You will forever occupy my heart.”
Bezos’ decision to move from California to Florida would be a major setback for the state as Amazon’s rapid growth transforms Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. The facility houses many Indian workers employed in its various units. Over the course of a decade, he replaced warehouses and parking lots with office towers, well-paid skilled workers and expensive restaurants. This growth has contributed to economic prosperity and rising rents.
